As a lifelong Alameda resident, and one who's own children are third generation graduates of Alameda schools, I personally have a strong commitment to our schools. I understand how important the success of all Alameda school children is to our community. We each feel pride when we learn of the academic and extracurricular achievements of our students.
With my thirty five years as an educator in AUSD, I believe I am the best candidate for School Board. Not only do I understand the academic and instructional side of Alameda Unified, but I have a comprehensive knowledge of budgets, programs and the complexities of implementing and maintaining a successful and fiscally responsible school site. In my service as an educator for Alameda Unified School District, my successes and highlights as an educator include:
- Long term, multi-facted experience as an educator: teacher (6 – Adult), middle school and high school Head Counselor, District Administrator as Coordinator of ROP/School to Career/Colleges, and Alameda High School Principal.
- Extensive leadership experience working collaboratively with students, staff, parents, community members, local businesses, and Police, Fire and various City departments in a proactive way to build positive relationships and to effectively problem-solve and resolve concerns.
- Encouraging the development and success of the many athletic opportunities at Alameda High School.
- Encouraging and expanding the offering of AP classes, scholarships and grant offerings for all high school students. Working collaboratively with the College of Alameda to align classes and develop college course opportunities for Alameda students.
- Implementing and supporting professional development of teachers and staff based on the needs of students and staff as they relate to District focus and goals.
- The opportunity to shake the hand of thousands of Alameda students as they graduated from high school and moved forward to the next phase of their lives. This important passage was always the most amazing way to end a school year.
I am proud of, and cherish my connections with Alamedans from all walks of life. Young and old alike know me and I believe, respect the work in education and in the community that both my husband, Don and I have done for the youth of Alameda. I would be very honored to serve on the AUSD Board of Education. |
